Sunfire - Sunfire 1500+ (DE62)
Sunfire is a global leader in the production of industrial electrolyzers based on pressurized alkaline and solid oxide (SOEC) technologies. With its electrolysis solutions, Sunfire is addressing a key challenge of today’s energy system: providing renewable hydrogen and Syngas as climate-neutral substitutes for fossil energy. Sunfire’s innovative and proven electrolysis technologies enable the transformation of carbon intensive industries that are currently dependent on fossil-based oil, gas, or coal. The company employs more than 550 people located in Germany and Switzerland.
With the IPCEI project "Sunfire 1500+", Sunfire targets the industrialisation (FID) of Sunfire's alkali electrolyser (AEL) an high temperature electrolyser (SOEC) technology. With the focus on FID, a production landscape for the industrial manufacturing of AEL and SOEC electrolyzers will be established, commissioned and validated. The factories are to provide future production capacities of 500 MW/a (SOEC) and 1 GW/a (AEL). In addition to industrialisation, "Sunfire1500+" also addresses important development tasks that are necessary for scaling. All R&D&I work is carried out according to the design-to-cost and design-to-manufacturing approach. The specific added value of "Sunfire 1500+" for the IPCEI on Hydrogen Technology is the industrialisation of the highly innovative and efficient SOEC technology, in which Sunfire is one of the key global technology leaders, and the industrialisation of the cost-effective and proven pressurised alkali technology.
The main investment location for the factories will be in Germany while most of the tasks are covered in Saxony, and for AEL also NRW on a pro-rata basis.
