Nordex Group (ES37)
The Project called “Design and manufacture of electrolyzer with alkaline enhanced flexibility to match direct connection to wind farms/PV plants to aim for most competitive LCOH levelized cost of hydrogen” is executed by the Nordex Group, which became one of the world’s largest onshore wind turbines OEM after the merging with Acciona Windpower. Our core business lies on the development, manufacture, project management and servicing of onshore wind turbines has been the core competence and passion of the Nordex Group and its more than 9,000 employees worldwide for over 35 years.
The main goal of our project is to develop an alkaline electrolyzers adapted to variable operation, with direct electrical support from wind turbines and PV. This involves and R&D and a FID. The R&D phase includes further investigation in increasing operation flexibility in alkaline technologies that is one of the technology challenges and contributes to LCOH competitive solutions (lifetime and efficient operation in variable regime) taking advantage of the company`s extensive know-how in generation in this regime (wind and PV energy) The FID phase will reach a modular prototype in the MW range.
Our project started in 2022 and it is expected to last till 2026. The first phase; R&D, would be finished in 2025 , while the next phase First Industrial Deployment phase, will continue till 2026, which would be the starting point for future investments in equipment for mass production plants in the north of Spain.
