IAM CAECIUS - Ver-Amonia (ES46)
The project Ver-Amonia is executed by the company IAM CAECIUS, S.L. managed by EDP Group and Tervalis Group.
EDP - Energias de Portugal, S.A. is a multinational, vertically integrated utility company. Throughout over 40 years of history, it has been building a relevant presence in the world energy scene, being present in almost 30 countries. EDP Renewables (EDPR) is EDP’s subsidiary for the renewable business. Tervalis Desarrollo, S.A. is a Spanish company, based in Teruel (Aragón). Tervalis develops its activity in the fertilizers industry through its subsidiary Fertinagro Biotech SL, that was founded in 2001 and it is a leader supplier of fertilizers for agriculture in Spain, with 18 production plants located in Spain and France.
The main objective of the project VER-AMONIA is developing an integrated electrolysis (25 MW) with an advanced small-medium size Haber-Bosch plant for producing 15.000 t/year of ammonia, destined to the manufacturing of fertilizers in the province of Teruel (Spain), an area severely affected by the energy transition. Technical challenges are a lack of market and operational data availability, flexible and efficient operation of all technologies implemented in the plant and a restricted access to real-time data with high granularity to optimize the electricity sourcing strategy in real-time. Hereby, the objectives are to develop, implement and deploy a cost-efficient electricity sourcing strategy, selecting the baseload of the process and the production and stopping ramps in order to take advantage of the off-peak periods of the electrical cost at more load and the peak cost to operate at the baseload of the plant. Another challenge is to develop a digital twin for green ammonia production system.
The green ammonia production plant will be located in the province of Teruel (Aragón, Spain). The project is on track of schedule and it is expected to be in operation by 4Q 2025.
