Welcome to the IPCEI Hydrogen website!


IPCEI Hydrogen is aimed at innovation as well as demonstration and deployment of hydrogen technology. IPCEI Hydrogen consists of four combined clusters of projects from more than half of the European Union member states and from Norway. The projects take place in the complete value chain of hydrogen: production, import, transportation as well as end use.

Currently two clusters of projects – or “waves” – have been notified by the European Commission under State Aid rules. The first wave is called “Hy2Tech” and the second wave is called “Hy2Use”. These two waves consist of almost 80 projects, which are large in size individually: project budgets range from several million euro’s to several hundreds of millions of euro’s per project.

The EU Innovation Fund has awarded grant allocation of €4.8 billion to 85 innovative projects, with hydrogen projects making up one third of total awards. This significant funding initiative marks the largest allocation since the fund’s inception in 2020, increasing the overall support to €12 billion and expanding the number of projects by 70%.

Derived from data collected up to September 2024, various datasets are updated with the latest available data, such as and among many others, the hydrogen production and hydrogen demand datasets. Moreover, some dashboards have also been improved, allowing for more user-friendly exploration and availability of multi-year data.

The German government has allocated €2.8bn ($3bn) in funding to accelerate decarbonisation efforts, with up to five hydrogen-based projects expected to receive a share of the support.
