Bosch Austria - HCCELEA (AT13)
Bosch Austria is part of the Bosch Group, a leading global supplier of technology and services in the business sectors Mobility Solutions, Industrial Technology, Consumer Goods, and Energy and Building Technology. Furthermore, Bosch is active in many fields to establish a hydrogen economy.
Main objective of the project Hydrogen, Carbon-free and Carbon-neutral Fuel Enabled Large Engine Applications (HCCELEA) is the development and industrialization of fuel injection equipment (FIE) for hydrogen and hydrogen-based (CO2-free/neutral) fuels for large engine (LE) applications. The targeted FIE technologies tackle different LE segments (Maritime, Construction and Industry, Railways and Power Generation), cover certain fuel types (hydrogen, methanol, and ammonia) and facilitate varying stages of the transformation towards CO2-neutral large engines (incl. dual fuel and retrofit solutions). Overall, it will significantly contribute to reducing the LE sectors GHG emissions.
Related objectives are contributions to develop/identify and validate materials and coatings suitable to fulfill the high lifetime requirements of large engine applications. Additional objectives are contributions to the development of (i) standards for fuels, (ii) the system interface between engine and fuel supply system/grid to ensure boundary conditions that enable a stable engine operation under severe environmental conditions and (iii) safety standards that have to be fulfilled by the developed technologies under all conditions.
All objectives are not limited to the internal combustion engine but are also of interest for e.g.: fuel cell, safety components (valves, etc.), storage systems and pipelines.
The transition from Research, Development and Innovation phase (RDI) to First Industrial Development (FID) phase is planned for begin of 2024. The transition from FID phase to mass production is scheduled for the last half of 2026.
Main engineering sites will be in Hallein and in Linz, both in Austria. Main production site will be in Hallein. The project has started in September 2021.
