Bondalti - H2Enable (PT27)

The “H2Enable - The Hydrogen Way for Our Chemical Future" project is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at driving a transformative change in Bondalti and wider Portuguese industry. This initiative unfolds in three strategic investment phases.
H2Enable is spearheaded by Bondalti H2, a subsidiary from Bondalti Chemicals, Portugal's largest chemical company and a major industrial hydrogen consumer. The project also benefits from crucial support from Bondalti's key partners, particularly Dow Chemicals, at the Estarreja chemical complex.
The first phase has received funding support from the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan. A consortium comprising Bondalti H2, Bondalti Chemicals, Faculty of Engineeing of the University of Porto (FEUP), Portuguese Association of Chemistry, Petrochemistry and Refinery (APQuímica) and Green Hydrogen Collaborative Laboratory (HyLAB) will drive this phase forward.
H2Enable is underpinned by three core objectives. Firstly, it aims securing supply of renewable electricity and deploying a large-scale water electrolysis plant. Secondly, the project seeks to facilitate industry and sectoral decarbonization, including heavy-duty mobility, by enabling widespread hydrogen consumption through the integration of multiple industrial users. Lastly, H2Enable aims to bridge the gap in the EU value chain, fostering knowledge exchange for the first large-scale industrial deployment and seamless integration with other EU Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) initiatives in the hydrogen value chain.
The first phase of the project will be located within the Estarreja Chemical Complex,a pivotal site for industrial development that significantly contributes to the Portuguese economy, particularly in the Aveiro region.
