BILBAO LARGE SCALE ELECTROLYZER, 24/7 Hydrogen Demand

Petronor,  has decided to concentrate all its decarbonised activities in a new vehicle. This company, named “ALBA EMISSION FREE ENERGY, S.A.” (ALBA), is wholly owned by Petronor and with all the support, capabilities and experience from the main company. This new company is responsible for executing Petronor's strategic plan in relation to renewable Hydrogen and the Circular Economy.
ALBA has created a specific vehicle open to new investors for this project named “BAY OF BISCAY HYDROGEN, S.L”, (BBH).

The aim of the project is to boost large-scale production of renewable hydrogen to achieve competitive prices that will enable the development of a complete hydrogen ecosystem. The production of hydrogen will be mainly for industrial use, being the first and main consumer the Petronor refinery, but there are other important industrial consumers in the Port of Bilbao area (Biscay) connected to the electrolyser as part of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor (BH2C).
There will also other uses hydrogen for mobility for any consumer connected to the BH2C pipeline.
Regarding the renewable energy supply, there are several different wind farm and solar plants from the Repsol Group under assessment for the project.

The project is located in the Port of Bilbao area, Biscay, Spain, as part of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor (BH2C).
Regarding the current status of the project: Detailed engineering is in progress and we are Processing administrative permits. We hope to make Final Investment Decision by summer. And the target is to start-up towards the end of 2025
